02/20/2024

Uniontown, PA (February 20, 2024) – WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital has received a statewide award for workforce innovation.

Uniontown Hospital’s initiative was one of 13 recognized by The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) through its 2024 Achievement Awards. Started in 1978, the program recognizes hospitals and health systems that are taking innovative approaches to strengthening the safety and quality of care, enhancing operations and patients’ experience, and partnering with their communities to address public health needs.

Uniontown Hospital’s Award is in recognition of the organization’s efforts to engage a workforce around a common purpose which is patient safety. “Our board of directors, physicians, and every member of our team share a common goal to assure our patients receive the very best care, close to home,” said Carrie Willetts, President and CEO.

“The board of directors challenged the executive leader team to create a culture that attracted and retained the best talent while assuring the highest standards of care for the patients we serve,” shares Nancy Decker, chair of Uniontown Hospital's board of directors. “This award validates just that.”

Uniontown Hospital competed against organizations of a similar size for the Workforce Innovators Award, which celebrates hospitals engaging the healthcare workforce through projects developed to attract, develop, and retain the best workforce. Entries were scored on specific criteria including results, adaptability, and how the goal of advancing health equity was embedded in the initiative. In total, there were 93 entries for this year’s Achievement Awards.

HAP President and CEO, Nicole Stallings said, “We are proud to announce the winners of HAP’s 2024 Achievement Awards, showcasing innovative, patient-centered projects that are making a difference in Pennsylvania. Strong health systems make strong communities and hospitals are central to our shared mission for a healthy Pennsylvania.”
