Maintaining Healthy Bones & Joints

There's no question that joint pain can take a lot of the fun out of life. Walking can be excruciating. Climbing steps may be nearly impossible. Sometimes even resting is painful.

When chronic pain such as this exists, many patients and their doctors begin to consider a very viable option: total joint replacement.

Through diagnostics such as X-rays, ultrasound and MRI, doctors can confirm the cause of the pain and determine the extent of damage in a joint. Still, many decisions are often determined by the amount of discomfort a patient is experiencing.

Since the first joint replacements in the 1970s, many advances have occurred, and Uniontown Hospital is at the forefront of providing state-of-the-art joint replacement procedures for our patients. Those procedures, coupled with our Joint Replacement Training offered through our Joint Replacement Center, give you the unique opportunity to receive a broad spectrum of care throughout the replacement process.

For the most common sports or work-related injuries, like acute sprains, cutting back is often recommended.

Other remedies might include anti-inflammatory drugs, stretching, physical therapy or help from a trainer.

Acute problems are significant injuries that may require surgery like meniscus or cartilage tears in the knee.

Our surgeons offer ACL and MCL replacement for patients suffering such knee injuries.
