Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation at Uniontown Hospital has a primary emphasis on helping patients reach their maximum independence in living skills, mobility and communication.
One of the many benefits of our Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation is its location within the hospital. This allows access to all of our services without having to leave the building.
We use an interdisciplinary approach to develop an individualized rehabilitation program for each of our patients. The patient is an active member of the team, participating in goal setting and development of his or her program.

Patients may be admitted to Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation from another unit in our hospital, from another hospital altogether or even directly from home if recommended by a doctor or therapist.
Inpatient rehabilitation is primarily considered for patients with the following medical conditions:
- Stroke
- Spinal cord dysfunction
- Congenital deformity
- Amputation
- Major multiple trauma
- Fractured hip
- Brain injury
- Poly and rheumatoid arthritis

- Neurological disorders
- Multiple sclerosis
- Motor neuron disease
- Polyneuropathy
- Muscular dystrophy
- Parkinson's disease
Rehabilitation is a dynamic process that requires ongoing participation from the patient. For this reason, the following criteria must be met for admission to the unit.
The person must:
- Have the expectation of functional improvement through intensive rehabilitation services within a reasonable period of time
- Have other medical problems that need to be treated or observed during rehabilitation
- Require regular direct, individual contact with rehabilitation physicians
- Have multiple or complex rehabilitation nursing needs and/or require highly skilled medical nursing
- Require a daily minimum of three hours of therapy at least five days per week
- Have education and training opportunities for themselves as well as family members.
